Mangrove Restoration To Achieve SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals)

The mangrove ecosystem provides many benefits for the community, the existence of mangroves is a renewable resource. This recovery effort can be done by restoration. Mangrove ecosystem restoration is an effort to improve the ecosystem so that the ecosystem returns to the ecosystem before it was degraded by natural succession, supports natural succession, enriches plants or plantings.

The government and NGOs are currently focusing on efforts to restore mangrove forests which are currently experiencing degradation. This Restoration Effort is also to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. This activity directly contributes to SDG 14 which focuses on marine and coastal governance. However, restoration of mangrove forest ecosystems must also be in sync with the achievement of other SDGs, including eradicating poverty and hunger (SDG 1 and SDG 2), ensuring livelihood economic growth (SDG 8), tackling the impacts of climate change (SDG 13) and halting the loss of biodiversity. .

The Action Plan which is currently being prepared in an effort to achieve the 6 SDGs points, the Government and NGOs carry out activities including:

Prevention of abrasion through planting mangroves in coastal areas
The development of mangrove ecotourism to utilize the mangrove ecosystem as a provider of marine tourism and improve the economy of the community around the mangrove forest area.
Conservation and restocking of mangrove crabs in environmentally friendly ponds and silvofihsery schemes.
Utilization of non-timber forest products such as the manufacture of derivative products from processed mangroves.
