The signing of the joint agreement between YAKOPI and the Gunungsitoli City Government.

In the Joint Agreement Signing event between the Gunungsitoli City Government and the Indonesian Coastal Conservation Foundation (YAKOPI) on Friday (31/05/2024), it was stated that at present, Indonesia, particularly Gunungsitoli City, is undergoing significant climate change, evidenced by prolonged drought affecting the Gunungsitoli City region and consequently impacting the coastal ecosystem.

“With the presence of YAKOPI, we hope to undertake coastal ecosystem restoration activities, agroforestry initiatives, and community empowerment efforts in climate change mitigation, which are expected to have a positive impact on the progress of Gunungsitoli City by harnessing the coastal ecosystem for improved community economic growth,” said Gunungsitoli Mayor Sowa’a Laoli, SE, M.Si.

The Mayor of Gunungsitoli hopes that with YAKOPI’s presence, new initiatives can be developed in Gunungsitoli City.

“As a positive outcome, the community will receive education on climate change mitigation by optimizing nature-based solutions such as reforestation, and we will be able to construct resilient agricultural infrastructure against climate change,” the Mayor stated.

Furthermore, the Mayor of Gunungsitoli invites all relevant local government agencies involved in the implementation of these activities to cooperate and actively participate in providing the necessary information and data requested by YAKOPI.
